History
Rotary Club of Port Adelaide has supported many local, national and international programs over the years.
This includes:
Annual Programs
- Port Adelaide Art Show – Now in its 29th year, the Port Adelaide Rotary Art Show will be showing approximately 700 paintings from over 200 artists. Themes include country, port and maritime themes, photography, youth and an open section.
- Port Adelaide Meals on Wheels-provides a driver each week
- Makes donations of at least US$1,000 to the Rotary Foundation, including distribution of Polio Myelitis vaccine.
- Collecting ring-pulls used in fundraising for the acquisition of titanium, a high cost item used in the manufacture of prostheses required in 3rd world countries.
International Programs
- Financing “Shelter Boxes”. Units provide emergency accommodation and facilities for up to10 persons and are shipped to disaster sites overseas.
- Specific donations and financial support to humanitarian projects such as Operation Cleft, OSSAA (Overseas Specialist Surgical Association of Australia Inc.), Tsunami Appeal and others.
- In conjunction with the Largs Bay club and District 9500 funds, supplied a utility vehicle to a disadvantaged school in South Africa.
- Support for students to make ambassadorial visits to 3rd World countries
- Supported the building of a female comfort room at San Francisco High school in Manilla.
- Supplied hospital equipment to hospitals in the Philippines
- Supported an orphanage in Cambodia.
Scholarships and Youth Programs
- Sends students (senior secondary ages) to 6 day personal development training voyages on South Australia’s sailing ship, the One & All.
- Provides financial support to the Youth Opportunities Program conducted at the LeFevre High School.
- Contribute to sending students to science appreciation programs, including National Youth Science Forum and Siemens Science Experience.
- Participating in schools’ “Business Week” activities and conducting mock job interviews.
- Hosts international exchange students
- Supports Primary school leadership programs
- Supports Operation Flinders
Community Service Programs
- Assistance in fitting out a “Men’s Shed” for Alzheimer sufferers and a communal BBQ at local Aged Care facilities.
- Significant donations to various organisations including Australian Rotary Health Research Fund, QEH Research Foundation, QEH Palliative care unit, Young Woman’s & Children Support Services, Riding for the Disabled, and other organisations.
- Provision of furniture and goods to the Port Adelaide Community Centre via the support of Rotary’s Donations in Kind facility.
- Supports Youth Suicide Prevention programs
- Supports Diamond House and the Options cafe.
